Yorkshire Runner Girl is doing a few long runs!

New Year, New Challenges!

Many people like to make new year's resolutions in order to make small changes in their lives, ie to eat more healthily, to exercise more, to spend more quality time with friends and family, etc.  Yorkshire Runner Girl likes to set herself new challenges and, boy, has she pushed the boat out this year!!

Yorkshire Runner Girl has signed up for her first marathon!  Yes, you read it right...*her first marathon*!!!  Eek!  Bring it on :)

Running

Social run

I started off the New Year with a social run in a beautiful location around a local reservoir.  It was a blustery and mild morning and the 7 miles went by in a flash, because we were chatting most of the way round.  I did say this was a social run!  I couldn't believe it when I looked at my watch and saw how far I'd run!!  Below is a photo of one of the beautiful views; what do you think?

I love this location :)

I've done a few more social runs with my own and other clubs.  I've met lots of brilliant people at my local parkrun and we like to be sociable with each other!  These social runs usually include a pub or 2 along the way, naturally :)

Cross Country

A difficult course for the first one of the year and I was really pleased with my time!  Considering it was very cold and icy underfoot.  Thankfully, I managed to stay upright!

Training

My half marathon and marathon training began today with a 10 mile run along a local canal with some of my running club buddies.  I wore my road shoes, thinking the surface would be good.  I immediately realised I had made a mistake when I started slipping on the muddy bits close to the canal.  On the plus side, I didn't fall into the canal!!  My road shoes got a bit muddy, but that's no worry.  I think they'll take a lot more battering over the coming months for me not to care about that!  May I present my marathon training shoes, below:

The wrong shoes!  Oops

Being sociable

I had a wonderful time over the Christmas break and really valued being able to spend time with friends and family!  I'm usually so busy that it's difficult to spend as much quality time with them as I would like, and vice versa.  Here's to trying to spend more quality time with friends and family during 2015 :)

Good start to the year!

I haven't had a bad first 11 days of the year!  Happy Sunday folks!
